2 Teens Killed and 1 Injured in Harnett County, North Carolina Hit-and-Run

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. – Two teenagers were killed and one was critically injured in a hit-and-run reported on a highway in Harnett County.


The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said it happened at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday as the teenagers walked along US 421 in Harnett County near McNeill Mill Road.

The victims had just left a gas station after buying drinks and were returning to one of the victim’s homes when it happened, according to troopers.

Authorities have identified the victims as Jennifer Schark, 13, of Broadway; Kyle Straight, 16, of Broadway and Steven Daniels, 14, of Sanford.

Schark and Straight died at the scene. Daniels was taken to Central Carolina Hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition, according to officials.

After hitting the teens, the driver immediately fled from the scene, according to highway patrol.

Investigators are currently working to determine the make and model of the suspect’s vehicle and plan on reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses.
