Beyoncé’s Rainbow Pride Dance Gets Negative Response From LGBT Community

Last night, Beyoncé posted a video of herself dancing in several rainbow outfits while celebrating the Supreme Court’s gay marriage ruling.

Beyoncé, as usual, is gaining a lot of praise from the mainstream media. The Huffington Post was very excited about the video.

“All hail Queen Bey, Pride and marriage equality! Beyonce celebrated LGBT pride and SCOTUS’s historical ruling for same-sex marriage with a 17-second remake of her ‘7/11′ video complete with rainbow flags and some killer dance moves.”

However, the comments underneath the article show that not everybody was pleased. “I generally like Beyonce, but find this offensive. Was she cheerleading gay rights just 5 years ago when it could have hurt her career. And why is HER music being played in the background. She, like others, is using the LGBT community for profit,” writes commenter David Marenchy. Towleroad also gushed over Beyoncé’s rainbow dance.

“Beyoncé had a rainbow-tastic dance party to celebrate the Supreme Court’s ruling last Friday legalizing same-sex marriage. And luckily she shared it on social media.”

The comments under the article were almost universally negative, and some took huge offense to Beyoncé’s latest play for LGBT relevancy. “I am sick to my stomach watching this. Remember when Beyoncé criticized Madonna and Britney’s kiss and used ‘God’ to condemn it? So she is just jumping on the Gay bandwagon now to sell her music. This makes me sick to my stomach,” wrote Tim Muldoon. “Despite making most of her money from gay, black males, Beyonce has never done a thing for gay people. All she cares about is making money. She has no soul,” wrote Icebloo. Beyoncé received some criticism on Twitter, as well.

Before Beyoncé became an icon, there were many inside whispers about her being homophobic. There is actually no concrete proof of those charges. However, in 2011, Beyoncé went out of her way to show that she loves the gays in an interview with PrideSource to talk about her LGBT fans.

“I’ve always had a connection. Most of my audience is actually women and my gay fans, and I’ve seen a lot of the younger boys kind of grow up to my music. It’s great when I’m able to do the meet and greets, because I’m able to really connect and have conversations.”

Whether Beyoncé is pandering or not, one can’t deny that she has a huge LGBT following. However, there are many who still believe that Beyoncé wouldn’t be caught dead cheering on gay rights just ten years ago, when George W. Bush wanted a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.
