Bill Maher of HBO’s long-running “Real Time With Bill Maher” (Coming back to HBO this Friday) gave his shocking insight to the Republican front runners to The Daily Beast Thursday. The comic who has never held back from letting his liberal opinions rear their left wing heads divulged in his theory that a Cruz presidency is what we should really be worried about.
Like Maher himself, Trump is a showman, the comic described him as. Maher believes that “[Trump is] very easily swayed by celebrity. I think if we sent Leonardo DiCaprio over to Trump Tower on a secret mission, we could get him to believe global warming is real.”
True. Trump is always in favor of whatever is popular, namely himself. He’s the host of celebrity apprentice, of course he finds himself at the whim of the charm of a celebrity. No matter how deep in the rock bottom of their careers (looking at you Kid Rock). Maher is also a believe (and he is not alone in this belief) that Trump is not as conservative as he is radically making himself seem at his town hall’s and debates. Maher remarks that he know that Trump was once more liberal before he announced his desires to run the country. And he even spared him some complimentary praise at his campaign strategy:
“What’s interesting about that is the way Donald Trump, even though he’s not a career politician, seems to instinctively understand what so many career politicians have trained for years to learn, which is how to defeat an opponent, how to go after his weakness.” Yet Maher still believe we must not be distracted by Trump’s persuasive ways and keep an eye on Cruz, to stop him “before it’s too late”:
“Ted Cruz is scarier than Donald Trump,” Maher went on to say, “I think Donald Trump, despite some of the crazy things he says and some of the disgusting things he says, he also says some things that a liberal can love.”
Though there were no words of love spoken about Texas senator Ted Cruz. Despite his “love of power”.
“It’s high intelligence in the service of evil. It’s one thing to have evil people who aren’t that bright! [his] ambition and love of power combined with being on the wrong side of every issue, it’s a very scary prospect.”
Real Time With Bill Maher returns January 15th on HBO.
