A Bradenton couple was killed early Thursday morning, while five young children were there at the home, according to police.
Police identified the couple as Kantrel Brooks, 29, and Esther Deneus, 29.
Investigators believe a group of people, perhaps 4 or 5, were wearing masks when they broke into the house at 3910 Southern Parkway West, and shot the couple to death.
A security alarm notified police to a break-in at the home before 4:00 a.m. They showed up and found glass from the front door broken out, and a man and woman dead just inside.
Police estimate that the ages of the children as from about 1 years old up to about 11 years old.
One of the children told police he saw the suspects inside the home, just across the street from Robert H. Prine Elemetary School.
Police said at least one victim was shot in the head.
Police said that there are “calls for service” to this home in the past, but none were about violence or related to drugs.
Detective Lt. James Rackey of the Bradenton Police Department said a manhunt is underway. “We are going to do our best to put them behind bars. What they did inside there shouldn’t be happening to anybody.”
The investigation is ongoing, and officers were waiting for a warrant to get into the house. “We have a scene here we want to start processing as soon as we can. We have to make sure we do it the right way,” said Rackey. “We want to make sure we do the best job that we can so we can bring justice for those two victims inside the house.”
