CW Making a ‘Hyper-Stylized, Gritty’ Reboot of Little Women

Forget capes and superheroes — the CW is stepping away from comicbook adaptations for a moment and turning to one of America’s most beloved novels for a series on its 2015-16 development slate.

The youth-skewing network is developing what it calls a “hyper-stylized, gritty adaptation” of Louisa May Alcott’s 19th century novel “Little Women.”

Written by Alexis Jolly and produced by “NCIS” co-star Michael Weatherly through his Solar Drive Productions in association CBS TV Studios, the project is said to follow “disparate half-sisters Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy” as they “band together in order to survive the dystopic streets of Philadelphia and unravel a conspiracy that stretches far beyond anything they have ever imagined — all while trying not to kill each other in the process.”

This wouldn’t be the first time that CW has offered a stylized look at historical times and stories. “Reign,” its depiction of the early years on Mary, Queen of Scots, will soon premiere its third season.

Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.
