Dedicated Elementary School Teacher Carl Schneider Walks Students Home From School Every Day

A Memphis, Tenn. teacher is going the extra mile for his students, literally. Carl Schneider walks his kids home from school every day.

Schneider is part of a group of five teachers at Whitney Achievement who volunteer to walk students home each day. About 200 students take part in the walking program, many of whom live in apartments about a quarter-mile away from the school.

The program ensures that the students are able to get home safe and allows them to forge a special bond with their teachers.

“I didn’t think this was part of the job description,” said Tabitha Judy Jones, who captured an image of Schneider performing the good deed. “But it’s so sweet that he goes above and beyond for the children.”

“We can just get to know the kids and talk about what they did over the weekend or how their behavior was at school that day or what they learned,” Schneider told WAFF.

Schneider, who’s been doing the walking program for all three years that he’s been at the school, says the walks are something he looks forward to every day.

“I’m also really glad that people know the teachers in this community are really invested in the community,” Schneider said.
