Dismaland: Not the Happiest Place on Earth

Dismaland: Not the Happiest Place on Earth

Disneyland is known it’s the happiest place on earth. It can be found about less than 50 miles away from the Inland Empire in California, which is why I have an annual

passport for it. Featuring Fantasyland, Toontown, Tomorrowland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and more, it is what brings countless people to Anaheim, CA and of course Disneyworld in Florida. Now, there is Dismaland and  it is not even in the U.S. It is rather a “dismal” take, as its name verily implies, on the happiness implied by the name of “Disneyland.”

Created by a famous street artist, Banksy, it was opened August 20th, 2015. As I was surprised to know, Dismaland was hyped enormously, as so many people tried to buy tickets that the website crashed. Banksy is not the only artist that made this possible, as he reportedly enlisted the help of many others around the globe, including artists with the names of Josh Keyes and Polly Morgan.

Dismaland opened on Friday, August 22 2015 and will be open until the 27th of September of this year, so if you want to see it for yourself, hurry up and get there. I would have personally expected people to be agitated over this ordeal, where a man dared to satirize and parodize the beloved archetypal characters we know from Walt Disney, yet I was shocked to know this was not necessarily the case and people were actually quite riveted to make the visit to this new, satirical theme park in the United Kingdom.
