First Look: Hawkgirl and Hawkman From ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’

Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) and Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) are taking flight on The CW this season, and the network has released the first photo of the two DC Comics heroes in costume. They’ll make their debut together in crossover episodes of “Arrow” and “The Flash” before spinoff series “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” premieres at midseason.

Hawkgirl (aka Kendra Saunders) and Hawkman (aka Carter Hall) are soulmates and reincarnations of Ancient Egyptian royalty, fated to be reborn throughout time. Both heroes can access the powers of the Hawk God Horus, allowing them to sprout wings from their backs.

Renée already made her first onscreen appearance as Kendra in the season one finale of “The Flash,” while other members of the “Legends” roster have previously been introduced via “Arrow” and “The Flash,” including Ray Palmer/the Atom (Brandon Routh; Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz); one half of Firestorm, Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber); Mick Rory/Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell); and Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller). Two newcomers to the shared universe, Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh) and Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), round out the eclectic team, and they’ll all appear in “Arrow” and “The Flash’s” upcoming crossover event ahead of “Legends of Tomorrow’s” premiere. The group will face off with Casper Crump’s immortal DC villain Vandal Savage.

Executive producer Greg Berlanti has compared “Legends” to ensemble Westerns and classic heist movies. “For us, first and foremost, with all [our shows], it’s about ‘how is it its own thing?’ Because we don’t just want to do it to do it,” Berlanti previously told Variety. “I compare the shows to old Westerns; we have a lot of lone gunmen and sheriffs in town, and this one is very much an ode to things like ‘The Magnificent Seven’ or those great heist pics like ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ where you get all of those colors at the same time, and a true ensemble, and that was the fun of it… You want that Rat Pack-y kind of vibe of all this crew hanging out, as disparate and as different as they are.”

“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” hails from Bonanza Productions, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV with Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter exec producing.
