2015 has been a monumental year in music with a myriad of new albums and artists on the rise. Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Florence + the Machine, Tove Lo, Halsey, and more all released great albums lately.
Maroon 5 is ultimately my absolute favorite so, yes, I am biase towards them, and I say they had an awesome album with V, which I have adored every song from.
They are nominated in the pop category along with Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, who both win a lot as well. Also for record of the year, Taylor Swift faces off against The Weeknd and others. Swift receives many nomination for her famously adorable hit song “Blank Space” as The Weeknd is nominated for “Can’t Feel My Face.”
Rock newcomer Elle King, I personally believe, is most likely to dominate in the rock category with her infectious hit Exes and Oh’s. Contenders in the rock category are indie rockers like Florence + the Machine and Alabama Shakes.
It also includes alternative rockers the Foo Fighters. What I do wonder though is why Walk the Moon is not being acknowledged for their energizing hit song, “Shut Up and Dance.”
In the hip-hop categories Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, and the Weeknd are nominated and sure to dominate, as always. The Weeknd is nominated in the R&B category and nominated for his song “Earned It.” Kendrick Lamar is nominated for his rap song, “Alright.” He is nominated with Taylor Swift for their collaboration on her song “Bad Blood.”
Nominated in the soundtrack category are soundtracks like that of “Pitch Perfect 2” and that of “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Fifty Shades of Grey’s soundtrack had hits like “Earned It,” by the Weeknd, “Love Me Like You Do,” by Ellie Goulding, and “Elastic Heart,” by Sia and featuring The Weeknd and Diplo. In the newcomer or breakout star category, indie rocker James Bay is nominated and he is up against pop newcomer Tori Kelly and pop sensation Meghan Trainor.
Why is Justin Bieber not nominated? He had many resounding songs this year in his new album,
“Purpose.” Indie pop singer Halsey along with Tove Lo have hit songs this year and are surprisingly not nominated. Also, where at all is Adele? She has been instrumental with her latest new music. Why are artists like BANKS, who brings new images to rock, electronic, and R&B music, ignored when they make such an impact?
