Detroit — A Metro Detroit woman won the highest progressive jackpot in Detroit history, on Sunday night.
According to the casino, the woman, who asked to remain anonymous, initially thought she broke the International Game Technology Wheel of Fortune slot machine.
“I saw the winning combination come across the line and the machine went dark,” the winner said in a statement Monday.
“I thought, I just killed the machine. The machine then lit back up and revealed I had won over $2 million and I thought, wow, I really did kill it!”
The woman played five lines on the quarter machine, said a casino spokesman. The $1.25 bet won her $2,005,393.95.
The last record jackpot hit was in February 2004 when a nickel slot, also a Wheel of Fortune machine at Greektown paid out $1.77 million.
The winner, who visits Greektown Casino exclusively, said she plans to return. She also intends to buy a dress with her winnings.
“Then, we are going to go to Disney World and take a nice trip to Cabo,” she said.
The winner’s daughters describe her as generous person who sacrifices to take care of others.
