Keith Emerson’s Death Ruled a Suicide

The death of keyboardist Keith Emerson has been ruled a suicide, the Santa Monica Police confirmed to Billboard.

According to the police, Emerson suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Emerson, who is best known for his work in Emerson, Lake & Palmer, died at age 71 on March 10 at his home in Santa Monica, according to Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s official Facebook page.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson,” former bandmate Carl Palmer wrote on his Facebook page. “Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come.”
