Lakers To “Aggressively” Pursue Hassan Whiteside

The Los Angeles Lakers in the last couple years have failed to make a “big splash” in free agency, but with Kobe Bryant out of the picture LA now has a new pitch to free agents.

No it isn’t the lights and glamour of LA and Hollywood. It’s the opportunity to play alongside four potential stars in this league who are all aged 24 and under, and a 36-year-old coach in Luke Walton. Will this pitch work? Well, the Lakers are really hoping it’ll work especially with one free agent.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers plan to “aggressively” pursue Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside when free agency starts on July 1st.

Los Angeles looks at Whiteside as the “missing piece of the puzzle,” as the team is really lacking in rim protection and hoping they can bring the 27-year-old to the Lakers.

The Lakers will still attempt to secure a meeting with prized free agent Kevin Durant, but the likelihood of them landing KD vs. Whiteside makes many people believe the Lakers will pursue the latter stronger.

The Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers join the Lakers and the Heat in pursuit of Hassan Whiteside.

Whiteside averaged 14.8 points and 11.8 rebounds to go along with his league-leading 3.7 blocks per game.
