Man Commits Suicide at Southside High School Alabama

GADSDEN, Ala. —There were some scary moments at Southside High School on Wednesday afternoon when police say a man committed suicide on campus.

Southside Police said they received a call from a woman that her husband, 50-year-old Charles Roland McDaniel, was headed to the school to see his children one last time before taking his own life.

Police spotted the vehicle at 3:38 p.m. and McDaniel sped from the main parking lot to an adjacent gravel lot near where the band was practicing. Officers say they kept McDaniel from making his way on the practice field. That’s when he shot himself.

No students or staff were harmed during the incident.

Counselors will be on hand at Southside High School on Thursday.
