Man Distracted by Electronic Device Falls From San Diego Cliff to His Death

SAN DIEGO — A 33-year-old man plummeted to his death after he fell from Sunset Cliffs in San Diego on Christmas Day.

The man went to the scenic area that evening to watch the sunset, KSWB reported. Witnesses said he was looking down at a cellphone or camera when he fell 50 to 60 feet from the top of the cliffs.

After he fell, witnesses said three people climbed down to help him. Paramedics attempted to revive the man when they arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Just like driving and using your cellphone, you don’t want to be walking and using you cell phone,” said San Diego Lifeguard Sgt. Bill Bender told KSWB following the incident.

“You don’t want to be distracted by anything when you’re in an area where you can be put at risk.”
