Man Shot Outside White House Told US Secret Service He Came to ‘Shoot People’

Court documents indicate a Pennsylvania man who was shot after rushing a White House security gate last month was armed and told police, “I came here to shoot people.”

Federal prosecutors on Friday charged 31-year-old Jesse Olivieri of Ashland, Pennsylvania, in connection with the May 20 incident. Bill Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, said Olivieri remains hospitalized.

According to an affidavit, a witness heard a “pop” and saw a man approaching the White House armed with a silver handgun.

Secret Service agents then saw Olivieri rush through one security gate and rapidly approach another. When he failed to stop, an agent shot him.

The court records indicate Olivieri expressed his desire to shoot people as he was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
