Update at 4 p.m.: Shortly after 1 p.m., police received a call from someone concerned that their friend, who was staying in the hotel, might hurt himself, Deputy Chief Scott Walton said.
Patrol officers tried unsuccessfully to contact the man. Police believed the man may have been armed and SWAT was dispatched to the hotel, he said.
The man gave himself up about 3:30 p.m. He has been taken into custody for evaluation, Walton said.
A handgun was recovered from the scene.
No charges have been filed.
Update at 3:44: Police say the situation has been resolved and the man is in custody.
Original post at 2:44 p.m.: A man has barricaded himself at the Omni hotel in Downtown Dallas, police say.
The threat is contained to the floor the man is on and that floor as well as the one above it have been evacuated, Senior Cpl. DeMarquis Black said.
Based on preliminary information, the man is a hotel guest, police said.
People are still being allowed in and out of the hotel, police said.
Police have blocked off part of Young Street at Market Street. Ambulances are also on scene.
