Michael Jordan Gives Kobe Bryant Collection of Air Jordans as Retirement Gift

The admiration between Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant has been evident through the years. Jordan, when asked to choose between the two, took Bryant over LeBron James a few years ago.

Jordan provided a video tribute message to Bryant after he announced his impending retirement. There is a bond between the two greatest shooting guards of all time, forged not only in their games, but in their indomitable wills to win.

On Friday night in Toronto, Jordan Brand paid their own homage to Bryant, inviting him to the Jordan party and providing him with an incredible going-away sneaker gift. First tipped off by tweets from Twitter user @ernnytheman, Sole Collector has the awesome details.

At a Jordan Brand event in Toronto tonight, Bryant was recognized by Jordan and the Jordan Brand. According to ernnytheman, The All-Star shooting guard was given complete I through XXX sets of Air Jordans in all-black and and all-white colorways. And, with a special Kobe Bryant themed pack rumored for release this month, a few of his old Player Exclusive colorways are also on display. The source adds that a set of Kobe’s Jordans will be auctioned off, as well. More on this story as it develops.

Additionally, a complete black set in Kobe’s size 14 is being auctioned off on eBay for charity. The auction runs through the weekend.

Click on over to Sole Collector for photos from the collection, which are sure to make any sneakerhead lose their mind. The Lakers accents on each are a nice touch that separates them from a simple white or black colorway as well.

It’s also just a really cool moment that strikes a chord within basketball culture, which is tightly wound around fashion and specifically shoe culture. Bryant’s received a lot of gifts during his farewell tour, and while he easily could have had these made for himself, Jordan Brand offering this token is a pretty cool moment all its own.

I wonder if Kobe has the closet space?
