CATO TOWNSHIP, Mich.– A deputy in Montcalm County was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital after being shot with a crossbow.
Michigan State Police say it happened late Friday night as Montcalm County Deputies, Lakeview Police and an officer from the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post were serving an arrest warrant on felony charges at a home on Friday.
While at the home, state police say the suspect, a 40-year-old man, shot at officers with a crossbow striking a Montcalm County deputy.
Officers then returned fire, hitting the suspect at least once.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile the deputy shot was airlifted to a local hospital.
Troopers say he is in stable condition.
Neighbors identified the suspect as 40-year-old Travis Quay. Tim Schultz, a neighbor to Quay, said that he was held at knife point by Quay yesterday and that his son, Levi, was stabbed by a pitch fork by him.

The name of the suspect has not been confirmed by police at of this time.
