The 2015 EMA’s were started off by Fifth Harmony with their hit, “Worth It.” The show, though, was also started off by the two hosts of the show last night, well-renown singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, and actress Ruby Rose, who is known for her gender fluidity.
Here is a list of the winners: there were up to 17 categories excluding worldwide nominations. The best song went to Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar for the hit song “Bad Blood.” The best video went to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for “Downtown” and Rihanna won best female. Justin Bieber won best male, best/ biggest fans, and he also won best look. He even won best collaboration for “Where Are You Now?” with Skrillex and Diplo as well as winning Best North American act for worldwide acts. Ed Sheeran won best world stage and best live act and Shawn Mendes, 16, won best new act. Nicki Minaj won best hip-hop. Lana del Rey won best Alternative and Coldplay won best rock. Taylor Swift won best US act and Martin Garrix won best electronic. One Direction, who are officially seven months without Zayn Malik, as was a popular hashtag yesterday, won best pop. Nominees and winners in the worldwide categories included Tove Lo, Little Mix and 5 Seconds of Summer.
Above all, what made this year really special was the fact that there was a gender fluid host; by the way, her outfits stunned me! She even had an inclusive and praiseworthy comment that I caught, when she said, “Ladies and gentlemen and everyone in between.”
