Peter Berg receives backlash for shot at Caitlyn Jenner

A prominent TV and film director is under fire for a nasty shot at the “courage” of ESPY award winner Caitlyn Jenner.

The internet was ablaze Thursday after “Friday Night Lights” creator and “Lone Survivor” director Peter Berg took to Instagram to voice his displeasure with Jenner winning the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs – posting a meme of the former Olympian next to an American soldier with two prosthetic legs.

The 51-year-old Berg received considerable backlash for the post, as a bevy Instagram users bashed him in the comments below.

“What he is saying is discriminatory and hurtful,” one user commented. “I’m not going to support that. This meme is hurtful and there are my appropriate ways of conveying your opinion without trying to hurt others.”Another user added: “Everyone is entitled to their opinion, absolutely, but what a nasty way to announce yours.”

Berg’s stance is somewhat surprising given his professional relationship with Friday Night Lights book author Buzz Bissinger. The 60-year-old Bissinger revealed in 2013 that he has questioned his sexuality and experimented with wearing women’s clothes. He was also the one who famously interviewed Jenner and wrote the cover story for Vanity Fair’s July issue.
