Polk Man Shot and Killed in his Driveway

Lake Alfred, Florida — Polk County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of a man in his 60’s who they say was shot and killed outside a home in the 700 block of Todhunter Way South in Lake Alfred.


In a press conference Tuesday morning, Sheriff Grady Judd says James “Terry” Yelvington was getting into his car for work around 5:50 this morning when he was shot in his driveway. He died at scene.

Witnesses told police they saw tail lights of a vehicle leaving the area.

Deputies are asking anyone in the area who heard anything around that time or saw any vehicles in the area around that time, or know anything about the shooting, to call 863-298-6200 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS and be eligible for a reward for information leading to an arrest and remain 100% anonymous.
