Project Runway Junior Star Matt Sarafas Discriminated Against In College Interview For Brown University

“Project Runway: Junior” fan favorite (despite his unfortunate car-wash tube dress) Matt Sarafa is an 18 year old designer extraordinaire and college hopeful. Unfortunately his desinger goals have been temporarily put on halt by his unfortunate recent college endeavor.

He posted about the experience on his YouTube channel, saying that he had taken a step back from further applying to his dream school Brown University. His reason: The alumni who interviewed him told him that Brown was not a very diverse school. Sarafa said that the interviewer said to him, “[Brown is]  not very accepting of ‘your kind’ at the school.” and “The only place you will find ‘Orientals’ in the town surrounding Brown is working in Chinese restaurants and in laundromats.”

Although he came forward with this claims and have made them public with a wide and positive response in his favor he told The Huffington Post that he is “not trying to bash Brown or the interviewer in any way, but instead just standing up for myself and others so that nobody else has to go through this situation.”

“It’s a shame because I know several people who currently go attend the university, and the students there are absolutely amazing… It’s some of the people working for Brown that are the problem.”

Unfortunately this is not merely a make it work moment for Matt, because racism and homophobia is not something that any young person should have to work with. As you all know, with basic human deceny one day you are in as an alumni of a prestigious university, and the next you are outted as a horrible person. And I am sorry, random Brown University alumni interviewer, but you are out… you can leave the runway and this poor kid alone.
