Pueblo County High School has been placed on lockdown while Pueblo County Sheriff’s deputies investigate what authorities believe is a Halloween prank.
Superintendent Ed Smith said a female student was seen walking in the hall between class periods wearing a gas mask and long trench coat. A student alerted a teacher, who reported the incident to school administrators.
The student was immediately taken to the office, where she was questioned by authorities and the school was placed on lockdown status.
Smith said the student told authorities the outfit was part of a Halloween prank.
He said the student did not come to school wearing the outfit but apparently put it on between first and second period classes.
“As a precaution, we have locked down the school and sheriff’s deputies are checking the building to make sure there isn’t anything suspicious,” Smith said. “We believe at this point after some investigation that it was a Halloween hoax.”
Smith said at no students were ever in any danger.
“We are taking precautions because our concern is always for the students,” Smith said.
