University of Louisiana at Monroe Confirms Death of 20-Year-old QB Daniel Fitzwater

Louisiana-Monroe quarterback Daniel Fitzwater died Saturday morning, the school announced.

The cause of his death is still unknown. Fitzwater was 20 years old.

“The coaching staff and team are deeply saddened by the loss of a great person in Daniel,” University of Louisiana at Monroe coach Todd Berry in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Daniel’s family.”

Said ULM president Nick Bruno: “The ULM family is saddened to learn of Daniel’s death. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.”

Fitzwater walked on to the football program in the spring after spending the past two summers at a JUCO. He suffered a knee injury during summer camp that required surgery and kept him from play this season.
