Van Zandt County, Texas: Multiple Agencies Contain Fire at ‘The Mountain’ Flea Market

The Van Zandt County Fire Marshal’s Office said nearly 90 percent of the downtown Canton market was damaged by the overnight fire. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

It’s not yet clear just how many buildings were destroyed, but at last check the fire had burned at least five acres.

DPS troopers reopened Highway 64 around 8 a.m. They had it shut down earlier during the fire.

In November of 2013, the same area was damaged by a fire. That time about 10 percent of the trade site was destroyed and about two dozen people had to be rescued.
