VIDEO John Daly Throws Club into Lake Michigan at PGA Championship

What happens when the one and only John Daly takes 10 strokes to finish off a par-3?

Well, with Lake Michigan nearby on the seventh hole at Friday’s PGA Championship, it shouldn’t take you long to guess.

Daly tossed his club into the water, and –€“ moments later –€“ a boy in a boat passing by found himself a souvenir.

What went so wrong? Daly — who donned the red, white and blue for his first round Thursday — fired a respectable 1-over 73 to open the tournament. He was having a fine round Friday, too, even through six holes.

Then, things spiraled out of control. Daly hit three balls in the water on his way to a 10. Not good. Apparently he figured the club should join the balls.

If Daly had stayed at 1-over, he would have been tied for 62nd, at least for the time being. However, the seven-shot drop sent him all the way down to tied for 131st and six shots off the projected cut line, basically ruining his entire tournament.  But at least he looked good doing it.
