The dogs react almost 3 seconds before the shake. I wonder how they sense it? Maybe they hear it before the shake?

A recent article in the New Yorker about the expected mega quake in the Pacific Northwest had a blurb about why dogs seem to have a few seconds heads up. It has something to do with the frequency of the initial shockwave that travels ahead of the shaking being at a level the human ear doesn’t pick up. Dogs hearing range is shifted just up or down the spectrum enough that they hear this and are often startled to attention a few seconds before the shaking starts.
