Vikings Kicker Blair Walsh Misses Potential Playoff Game-Winning Field Goal Against Seahawks

Vikings kicker Blair Walsh missed a 27-yard field goal attempt that would have given his team a two-point lead over the Seahawks in the closing seconds of Sunday’s NFC playoff game.

Replays showed that holder Jeff Locke put the ball down with laces facing Walsh, though Walsh made a 47-yard field goal earlier in the game with the laces in.

Former NFL punter and holder Zoltan Mesko weighed in on how the laces can affect the kick, as did former Vikings kicker Chris Kluwe.

The pivotal moment elicited strong reactions on both sides.

Walsh was successful on his three previous field goal attempts before the potential game-winner, from 22, 42 and 47 yards.

Minnesota has not won a playoff game since the 2009 season.
