Baseball Legend David Ortiz ‘Shot in the Dominican Republic’

David Ortiz has been shot in the Dominican Republic. The former Red Sox player has been hospitalized, according to local news outlets.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Ortiz’s father Leo Ortiz confirmed the news to ESPN Digital on Sunday night.

According to baseball writer Dan Clarke, Ortiz was shot during an attempted robbery at Dial Bar on Santo Domingo Este. The suspect has been taken into custody, Dominican journalist Jose P. Monegro tweeted.

“They called me to tell me that David is injured and that they took him to a medical center, but they did not tell me how he is or exactly where he was transferred,” Ortiz’s father, Leo, told ESPN.

Ortiz’s current condition is unknown.
